One of the most hotly tipped names in British indie, Arkayla have followed a breakthrough year with the release of new single ‘Run Kid’, with the video out now!
Last year saw Arkayla head out on a sold-out UK tour, including a headline hometown show at Manchester’s O2 Academy, along with support slots with Blossoms and The Royston Club.
They finished the year with their acclaimed EP, ‘DON’T LOOK FOR ANSWERS’, and were the first name on many “Ones to Watch” lists for 2026.
Directed by Lara Laeverenz, the ‘Run Kid’ video visual is a striking, high-contrast black-and-white portrait of growth, resilience, and self-reflection, set in Manchester.
The video follows a young boy, played by Jeremiah Cheetham, best known for his role as Oliver Battersby in Coronation Street, as he sprints through the city, motivated by the voice of his older self.
Speaking on the track, Arkayla commented: “Run Kid is a proper optimistic tune, it’s about ignoring all the bullshit that gets in the way of life and keeping on moving forward.
“It has a punkier energy to it than our other songs which is a side of our sound which we used to try and fight.
“With Run Kid we let go of all expectation for what we should be writing and just threw the kitchen sink at it. It’s easily our favourite tune in our set at the minute.”
Speaking about the visual concept, Lara Laeverenz added: “The music video for ‘Run Kid’ is a high-energy visualisation of persistence and becoming.
“In high contrast black and white, the film follows a young boy sprinting through Manchester, fueled by the very track his older self (Cal) is singing.
“By bridging the gap and match cutting between a past and present character, we suggest that Cal’s lyrics are the words of encouragement his younger self needed to hear.
“It’s a rhythmic, textural ‘running into oneself’ – a motto for anyone who needs the reminder to keep going.”
