It’s December, which means only one thing in the world of music… the Christmas songs are filling the airwaves once more!

Every year, we are treated to some new entries into the festive back catalogue, and the northern indie groups have been prevalent over the last few years.

Blossoms, The Lathums, Reverend & The Makers have brought out festive singles recently to name just a few, and now it is the turn of The Coral!

The Merseyside quintet have arrived with their first ever Christmas single, “She Died On Christmas Day”.

The Coral’s Nick Power commented: “We love fifties and early sixties rock n’roll, especially the British stuff.

“To us, it’s the sound of where we grew up: New Brighton and the fair, the lost piers, the thrill and danger of towns at the end of existence.

“If there’s an opening where we get to explore that side of us, we’re always up for it.”

It is the band’s first new music since 2023’s Top Five album, Sea Of Mirrors”.

A limited edition 7” release will be available to fans and collectors, entitled Christmas On Coral Island.

The title track is the last to feature the narration of the Ian Murray, also known as The Great Muriarty.

It follows their A Late Summer Night’s Scream at a sold out, 3,500-capacity Grand Central venue in Liverpool in August, and the Dreaming Of You film, directed by James Slater, telling the story of the band’s formation.

Head to The official website for The Coral for more information and to order the Christmas vinyl!
