With news of her highly anticipated debut album confirmed earlier this year, Scottish singer-songwriter Rianne Downey is back with latest single ‘Angel’.
The Consequence of Love is out October 17th via Run On Records.
This latest country anthem follows the title track, ‘The Song of Old Glencoe’, and ‘Lost in Blue’ to be released from the debut record.
Rianne commented on the new track: “‘Angel’ is one of those songs where I sat back and thought, “Did I just write that? It’s probably the track I’m proudest of. A classic fingerpicked country tune, I wanted it to feel timeless, like it could’ve been written today or in the 1950s.
“I think women are taught from a young age that we have to perform or serve to be worthy, and we’re constantly made to feel like we’re not enough. I spent so much of my life believing I had to be useful or accommodating to be “good enough.”
The album has been produced by Grammy winner Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlisle) and recorded at Seattle’s Bear Creek Studio.
It features ten tracks, all written by Rianne Downey and some in partnership with long-time collaborator Nathaniel Laurence.
Rianne continues on the latest offering: “This song captures the moment I realised you shouldn’t have to perform for anyone. You don’t need to be “enough” for the right person. Just being is enough.
“At its core, it’s a song about seeing the light after a long time in the dark. I can be cynical, a bit of a pessimist, but someone came into my life at the right time and it genuinely felt like an angel had been sent to me.”
Following her set at TRNSMT Festival, Rianne will perform a run of 12 UK & Ireland dates through winter 2025.
Kicking off with a sold-out show at Hull’s Central Library on October 12th, the tour includes a sold-out date at London’s OMEARA on October 29th.
The tour culminates at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on December 6th.
For anyone who has enjoyed Rianne’s collaboration with Paul Heaton in recent years, it’s time to see her shine on the solo stage once again!
