This summer, between May and September, Leopold Square in Sheffield will be hosting its annual extensive programme of live entertainment, ranging from funky jazz bands to soulful swing vocalists, in support of local musicians. Now, the upmarket venue is delighted to announce May’s eclectic line-up.
On Saturday 19th May, Sheffield based quintet The Hot Club of Clowntown will be taking groovers back to the hottest time of jazz with their traditional gypsy style sound.
Throughout the afternoon the band will be performing upbeat music made famous by guitarist and jazz composer Django Reinhardt. Local jazz band, The Dizzy Club will also be visiting Leopold Square on Sunday 20th May to entertain visitors with their blues and swing tributes. The quartet, comprised vocals, bass, drums and violin, will be performing their unique sounds for all to enjoy.
Aaron Casserly Stewart will be taking to the stage on Saturday 26th May. Previously a member of the three-times Grammy award winning soul group ‘Sounds of Blackness’, his stunning voice and presence on stage is guaranteed to be a real hit with visitors to Leopold Square. Aaron promises an incredible performance and afternoon of legendary soul music. On Sunday 27th May ‘The Big Swing’ and ‘Salsa in The Square’ will be returning to Leopold Square to celebrate the bank holiday in style.
Visitors will be thoroughly entertained with an afternoon of decadent jazz, live music and Spanish Latina dancing. Movers and shakers can enjoy the sounds of Ryan Taylor Hammond Quartet who will be bringing the beat to the outdoor dance floor before visitors are invited to join Cubana Tapas Bar as it hosts its annual ‘Salsa in the Square’ event – a dancing spectacular perfect for those in the mood to move and shake their hips from 12pm until late.
Nick Yates, from Leopold Square, commented: “We are really looking forward to kick starting this year’s programme of events and I am delighted to welcome May’s acts. If you’re a lover of jazz, soul and swing music our upcoming entertainment is something not to be missed.”
All live music at Leopold Square will take place between 2pm until 4.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
